The end of 2012

Filed under: Places Visited,Special Events — Dad @ 3:28 am

We ended this year much like we started it – with a day at the beach – even though we live more than 90 minutes drive from the coast we just had to get out of the house again since the sun was out and we needed to show off more of the beauty of California to my visiting parents.

This time we headed to Capitola, another favorite beach with a great eatery on the beach serving calamari and fries which was yet again, outstanding !

The beach looked very different today – possibly due to high tide or all the rains we had received, the beach was covered in pebbles and the landscape on the beach was quite different from when we visited earlier in the year.

As you can see we had an awesome time and Cezanne and Lanelle went about collecting sea glass that turned out to be quite a treasure hunt and something quite competitive between mother and daughter.

Sun at last !

Filed under: Places Visited — Dad @ 3:22 am

After so many rainy days stuck in the house we got a nice sunny day and jumped at the chance to get out and show off some of San Francisco.

We took our guests to Baker Beach, one of our favorite beaches for some views of Golden Gate Bridge.

Cezanne and Etienne both had a great time as they always do despite it being a bit chilly.

Family Apple Picking

Filed under: Places Visited,Special Events — Dad @ 3:47 pm

We went apple picking again this fall, something of a tradition now… Thinking back 3 years to the 2 days before Etienne arrived… Feels like a lifetime ago ! I guess this is what people call “memories” 😉

dsc_7688.JPGdsc_7699.JPGdsc_7707.JPGdsc_7715.JPGdsc_7726.JPG

We selected a small family owned apple farm Gabriel Farm and were very happy. They do a nice job with what they have and it does not smack of the commercial-ness that some of the farms we visited in the past, nothing against that – it has it’s place too, but this was nice and “earthy”. The apples were also tasty !

Arizona Swim Vacation

We finally took the camera to the pool for some shots of the kids splashing and swimming.

Cezanne had been watching the Olympics and decided that her new hero was Missy Franklin.

The summer swim lessons were showing evidence of a great improvement in Cezanne’s confidence in the water.

We got so busy swimming each moment we had we never really got a chance to drive out into the desert at sunset for a great “sunset with cactus” photo that Lanelle wanted. This was the best we could manage…

Summer Vacation 2012 – Arizona

We took a short vacation in the middle of summer to the desert of Arizona – the idea being go some where super hot and be 100% sure you can swim each and every day for pretty much as many hours as you want to ! Mission accomplished ! We found a great deal on a week long vacation in Phoenix / Scottsdale at a Water park Resort Hotel. We swam so much that we did not spend really any time at the side of the pool so we left the camera in the room for most of the vacation. We did have to throw in the towel most days over lunch time due to the extreme heat and during one such break from the pool we went to an aquarium at a nearby mall.

Christmas Gift in July

Filed under: Just Everyday,Places Visited — Dad @ 5:35 pm

Celeste gave us a photo session with San Francisco photographer Dinno Kovic. We tried once before but the weather really did not play along so we rescheduled and today was the day. We did an early morning shoot at Crissy Fields in San Francisco with the Golden Gate Bridge in the backdrop and Dinno did a wonderful job getting some really amazing natural photos along with some more formal posed photos. If you are looking for some great outdoor on location photos then I suggest you contact Dinno ( http://www.dinnokovic.com ).

Camping Queen, Frisbee Flyer & Driftwood Rockstar

Our summer camping trip to Bodega Bay with Friends Liam & Keira. The weather was NOT fun at all with gale force winds almost destroying our brand new tent. We also discovered that the climate at the beach is a lot more mild than we expected. When we left home it was about 88F and I suggested to Lanelle that she throw a warm set of clothes into the car for each kid and herself, just in case, by the time we arrived at the camp site the temperature was about 57F with +30 mile per hour winds. We lasted one night and then gave up 🙁

Cezanne, Keira, Liam and Etienne loved the camping and the climbing and the beach !!

dsc_5871.JPGdsc_5879.JPGdsc_5880.JPG

Cezanne discovered a Frisbee in amongst the beach toys that Liam and Keira had brought along and really enjoyed throwing it as hard as she could and then chasing it down again !

dsc_5902.JPGdsc_5960.JPGdsc_5987.JPGdsc_5994.JPG

We did spend most of the next day on the beach in warm clothes ( except the kids who did not seem to bothered by the cold ). Cezanne and Keira created a surf board store, and you can see Cezanne riding one of their surf boards. We also had to have a photo shoot near the drift wood, the poses slowly became more extreme until finally some sort of beach rockstar emerged…

Water Balloon Fights & Boat Rides

Cezanne and Etienne just love water balloon fights. For those who have ever prepared for such and event will know how much work it is to inflate and fill 50+ balloons and just how quickly those 50+ balloons become zero balloons ! If it weren’t for the smiles, the screams and the mountains of fun that these little wet bombs produce I’m not sure the effort would be worth it !

Lanelle and I took on Etienne and Cezanne while Uncle Frederik took some action shots !

dsc_5557.JPGdsc_5570.JPG

After the war had been won by the 6 year old and her big “baby” brother we went out on the lake for a boat ride. This really was a pretty amazing vacation !!

Cupcakes & Sunsets

After getting the recipe book and baking gear ( apron, oven mitt, etc ) Cezanne ( but I think more so Aunty Celeste ) just had to try something out. So they decided to bake cupcakes and then decorate them as all sorts of animals.  Here Cezanne poses with her creations.

Uncle Frederik had to get in on the “being a cool uncle” action and pulled out the ATV and we went for a ride in the wild just off their backyard. Cezanne was a little nervous but got to ride with Uncle Frederik which made it “ok”.

Later still we got to visit Donna & Gerri’s beach house – both kids love this place – there was plenty of late afternoon sun and then the day ended with a fantastic sunset. Cezanne just had to get in a few good “model” poses as well as a few where she looks much sweeter than she should 😉
