France 2007: Carpentras Market & Châteauneuf du Pape
September 14, 2007 by Dad.
The town near our farm house - Carpentras - is know for its fresh strawberries and so we set off early to try find some at the local market which pretty much takes over the entire town center from early morning until noon. Lanelle, Celeste & Ouma were in heaven, shopping at all the little stalls while I kept a keen eye on Cezanne who was very eager to explore the market with or without me. We did find the strawberries which are quite small but oh so juicy and delicious. I carried Cezanne in the one arm while trying to get strawberries to her but I was not fast enough and so rather than waiting for me to bite off the green stem, Cezanne helped herself and ate a few stem and all…
After the morning madness at the market we drove to the town of Châteauneuf du Pape which is famous for a well known specialist wine in the Côtes du Rhône (Rhone Valley) region. One of the keys to the success of the wine from this region is said to be the very stoney ground that the vines grow in.
